Chain Ratchet Type Load Holder, also known as a ratchet type chain tensioner, is a tool used to tighten chains and firmly restrain goods. It is widely used in fields such as freight and lifting, and is usually made of forged steel or cast steel materials. Compared to traditional chain tensioners, the ratchet design makes the process of tightening chains easier and faster, without the need for additional tools to complete locking and releasing.

Product Advantage

Easy to Operate

The ratchet design simplifies the tightening process, allowing for fast and tool-free locking and releasing of chains. This minimizes operational time and enhances efficiency.

Accurate Adjustment

The ratchet mechanism offers unlimited tension control, allowing precise adjustments to ensure goods are securely fastened based on real-time needs. This flexibility reduces the risk of cargo shifting during transportation.

High Safety

Equipped with safety features such as dedicated fixing devices and safety buckles, this load binder prevents accidental release and ensures the cargo stays secure during transport.

Durable and Corrosion-Resistant

Made from high-quality materials with surface treatments like red electrophoretic paint, the load binder is resistant to rust and corrosion, making it ideal for use in harsh outdoor environments.

Versatile Application

Compatible with various chain sizes and types, this load binder can be used in diverse industries including transportation, construction, and marine operations, providing reliable load securing across multiple applications.

Product Parameters

Parameter CategorySpecific ParameterDescription
Load - bearing CapacityWorking Load Limit (WLL)Ranges from about 1 - 10 tons (2200 - 22000 pounds) or more, depending on the model, indicating the maximum safe load the binder can handle.

Breaking StrengthUsually 2 - 3 times the WLL, shows the load at which the product will break to ensure a safety margin.
Chain CompatibilityChain Size CompatibilityCompatible with chain diameters often in the range of 6 - 16mm (0.24 - 0.63 inches), some can fit a wider variety.

Chain Type CompatibilityGenerally suitable for standard transport chains like grade 70 or grade 80 chains.
DimensionsOverall LengthTypically varies from 300 - 1000mm (11.8 - 39.4 inches), depending on the model.

WidthRanges from 50 - 150mm (1.97 - 5.91 inches).

HeightFrom 30 - 100mm (1.18 - 3.94 inches).

Hook OpeningUsually 20 - 60mm (0.79 - 2.36 inches) or more for larger hooks.
WeightProduct WeightLight - duty: 1 - 3 kilograms (2.2 - 6.6 pounds); Heavy - duty: 5 - 10 kilograms (11 - 22 pounds) or more.
Material - relatedMaterial GradeCommonly forged or cast steel, such as carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.2% - 0.5%.

Surface TreatmentTypes include red electrophoretic painting, hot - dip galvanizing, powder coating; coating thickness like 8 - 15 micrometers for galvanizing.
OperationalRatchet Tooth PitchUsually 2 - 5mm (0.08 - 0.2 inches), determines tension adjustment increment.

Thread Pitch of Tightening DeviceRanges from 1.5 - 3mm (0.06 - 0.12 inches), affects speed and precision of chain tightening/loosening.

Product Applications

The Red Forged Lever Chain Ratchet Type Load Binder is widely used across several industries for securing heavy loads during transportation and construction activities:

  • Transportation Industry: Securing loads on flatbed trucks, trailers, and rail cars to prevent shifting or falling.

  • Construction Industry: Used in the transportation and installation of steel structures, concrete components, and heavy machinery.

  • Shipping Industry: Ensures the safety of cargo on ships during maritime transport.

  • Mining and Power Industry: Utilized to bind materials and equipment securely for safe transportation in rugged environments.

Product Operate Guide

1、 Preparation work

·CHECK DEVICE STATUS

Confirm that all components of the tensioner are intact, including the ratchet, pawl, hook, and safety buckle, without deformation, cracks, or wear; The chain matches the specifications of the tensioner without any issues such as breakage or severe corrosion.Ensure that there are no obstacles in the operating area, the goods are placed steadily, and the hanging points (such as truck guardrails and cargo lifting rings) are firm and reliable.

·Connect the chain and hook

Hang the hooks at both ends of the tensioner onto the fixed points of the chain or cargo/transport vehicle, ensuring that the hooks are fully engaged and securely fastened to prevent detachment.

2、 Tighten the chain (tightening operation)

·Adjust the initial state of the ratchet wheel

If the ratchet is in the locked position, first shift the pawl to the "release" position (usually by pressing or pulling the control lever on the pawl), so that the ratchet can rotate freely.

Pull the chain and manually pre tighten it as much as possible to reduce the workload of subsequent mechanical tightening.

·Activate the ratchet to tighten

Reset the pawl to the "tighten" position, hold the ratchet handle, and shake it up and down repeatedly.

Each time it is shaken, the ratchet will drive the threaded device to rotate in, and the chain will gradually tighten until it reaches the required tension (adjusted according to the weight of the goods to ensure that the goods are stable and not shaking).

3、 Locking and fixing

When the tension of the chain is appropriate, stop shaking the handle, and the pawl will automatically engage with the ratchet teeth to achieve self-locking and prevent the chain from loosening.

Some models require manual confirmation of the locking status to ensure there is no risk of accidental release.

4、 Release the chain (unloading operation)

·Unlock

Press and hold the safety button or control lever on the pawl, turn the pawl to the "release" position, and release the ratchet from the locked state.

·Slowly release tension

Slowly shake the handle in reverse, or gently pull the chain to allow the threaded device to spin out, gradually releasing the chain tension (do not release quickly to avoid danger caused by chain bouncing).

·Dismantling equipment

After the tension is completely released, open the safety buckle of the hook, remove the tensioner and chain, and complete the operation.

5、 Precautions

It is strictly prohibited to stand in front of the chain or tensioner during operation to avoid sudden release of tension that may cause components to pop out and injure people.Overloading is prohibited and the Working Load Limit (WLL) indicated on the equipment must be strictly followed. If any abnormal noise, jamming or component abnormality is found during the operation process, stop the operation immediately and check. Only after troubleshooting can it continue.

FAQ

Q: How do I choose the right ratchet type chain tensioner?

A: Select a model based on chain specifications (diameter and grade) and the weight of the goods. Ensure the Working Load Limit (WLL) exceeds the weight of the load, and the breaking strength is at least 2-3 times the WLL for added safety.

Q: What should I do if the chain gets stuck or won't tighten?

A: Common causes include foreign objects like rust or dust on the ratchet or pawl, improper engagement of the pawl, or tangled chains. Clean the mechanism, ensure proper pawl engagement, and reorganize the chain before continuing.

Q: Can the tensioner be overloaded?

A: Overloading is strictly prohibited. Doing so can cause component failure, leading to accidents or loss of goods. Always use within the WLL, and for heavy loads, consider using multiple tensioners to distribute the load.
