1、Regular inspection:
Conduct a comprehensive inspection of the shackles on a regular basis, with the inspection cycle determined by the frequency of use and working environment. Generally, shackles that are frequently used should be inspected at least once a week, and those used in harsh environments should be inspected more frequently. In addition to visual inspection, non-destructive testing methods such as magnetic particle inspection can also be used to check for defects such as cracks inside the shackle. Measure the wear of the shaft diameter, and when the wear rate is greater than 2% (American standard) or 3% (national standard), it must be forcibly scrapped.
2、Cleaning and maintenance:
After each use, promptly clean the oil stains, dust, mud, and other impurities on the surface of the shackle to keep it clean. Regularly applying lubricating oil, especially at the contact area between the pin shaft and the buckle body, can reduce wear, prevent rust, and maintain the flexibility of moving parts. For shackles used in humid environments such as sea transportation, anti-corrosion treatment should be carried out monthly, such as spraying zinc based anti rust paint (dry film thickness ≥ 80 μ m).
3、Professional maintenance:
If damage or malfunction is found in the shackle, such as cracks, severe deformation, thread damage, etc., self repair is strictly prohibited and should be promptly handed over to the manufacturer or professional maintenance personnel for inspection and repair. The repaired shackle needs to undergo strict testing to ensure its performance meets the requirements for proper storage. After use, the shackle should be stored in a dry and ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight and humid environments. Hang or place the shackle on a dedicated rack to prevent damage from external forces such as compression and collision. At the same time, shackles of different specifications and types should be classified and stored, and labeled for easy access and management.
